Holguín, one of the country’s leading tourist destinations, is located in the eastern region of Cuba and has been blessed with extraordinary natural attractions and countless sites of interests ranging from beautiful white sand beaches kissed by transparent blue waters, magnificent natural parks and trekking areas, mastic trees, costal wetlands and primordial forests home to the almiquí (almique), an insectivorous mammal endemic to the area and considered a living fossil.

Cayo Naranjo

It is one of the three small cays located in the middle of Naranjo Bay. There is a dolphinarium. Tours can be made to the existing Zoo-aquarium, too.

Cayo Saetía

Located at the entrance to the Bay of Nipe (the biggest of the Cuban archipelago). This heavenly cay covers an area of 42 square kilometers, 65% of which is covered with natural forests. There live 19 species of exotic animals in complete freedom. For the enjoyment of visitors there are a dozen of small pristine beaches.

Ciudad de Banes

Home of two of the Holguin province’s most significant museums, the Bani Cuban-Indian Museum and the Chorro de Maita Site Museum. The drive from Guardalavaca beach to Banes is one of the most scenic in the province.

El Chorro de Maíta

Located in the province of Holguín, on the foot of the southeastern part of Yaguajay hill, at only 7 km from Guardalavaca beach. The place is known as the Archaeological Capital of Cuba. An excellent place to learn about the customs, rituals and lifestyle of the early inhabitants of the island
Here is the largest pre-Columbian cemetery of the Antilles. Part of the cemetery is laid bare to let visitors see how the bodies were buried.
Its name comes from a spring located nearby, with abundant water where the native groups agroalfareros inhabited before the Spanish arrived in these lands.
Visiting the Taino village is like traveling back in time in a natural environment. The landscape is decorated with rustic houses such as the Caney. You can find there everyday objects, ceramics, among other elements of that culture.

Gibara, la Villa Blanca

For a long time it was the main maritime access to the northern coast of the eastern provinces, which made it a prosperous region. This seaside city, identified as the White Village, preserves the most remarkable colonial architecture in the province of Holguin.

Museo Indocubano Baní

This museum located in the city of Banes, in the eastern province Holguín treasures important samples of the indocuban archaeology.
Two pieces, among the thousands preserved there, have a strong interest within the collection: a golden idol, the first found in the area, and a skull with a hole on the upper front similar to a bullet impact.

Museo Provincial de Ciencias Naturales

Located in the center of Holguin, the Provincial Museum of Natural Carlos de la Torre Huerta exhibits about 7000 copies of Cuban flora and other regions and also one of the best collections of ornithology and Malacology of the country.

Parque Monumento Nacional Bariay

The National Monument Park Bariay gives the visitor a piece of the history of Cuba. A set monumental work of the sculptor Caridad Ramos, commemorates the arrival of Columbus to Bariay in 1492, integrating huge columns of the Greco-Roman culture to the well-preserved natural environment. There are also a replica of a Spanish fort and a native village.

Parque natural Bahía de Naranjo

It stretches 32 km along the coastline in an area of around 1,000 acres. There are three small islands and an aquarium where visitors can enjoy live shows featuring dolphins and sea lions. The park is surrounded by lush vegetation and offers the possibility of walking through ecotour paths and to enjoy of other outdoor activities.

Playa Esmeralda

This idyllic 1 km long beach takes its name from the clear deep-green (emerald green) waters lapping the white sand. It is the perfect backdrop to enjoy the available wind surfing, sailing, diving and beach snorkelen.Het is protected by coral reefs and surrounded by hills, cliffs and vegetation. Nearby it is located the Bahia de Naranjo Nature Park.
